The modern way of life with non-physiological burden during work and sport increases the degenerative changes of the spine.
Statistics show that 80% of people at least once in their life have an episode of back pain and that it is the second most common reason for doctor visits. Although most of them are quickly healed, about 10% of patients suffer chronic pain – extending for more than 12 weeks.
Causes of chronic disorders are: disc and facet joints of the spine degenerative diseases, sacroiliac joint problems, soft tissue and bone stenoses of the spinal canal, and instability and deformities of the spine.
St. Catherine hospital has a unique program for diagnosis of painful conditions of the spine, and the surgical team performs minimally invasive procedures and surgical procedures on the spine.
Specialist examination in the Pain management clinic
Individualized approach to the patient in the specialized outpatient facility for painful conditions of the spine involves a comprehensive diagnosis of acute and chronic pain of all segments of the spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccyx). If necessary neuroradiological diagnostic procedures and/or minimally invasive diagnostic interventions are immediately scheduled.
Minimally invasive one-day interventions (therapeutic interventions)
Chronic spine pain with a defined source of pain can be treated with therapeutic interventions – minimally invasive procedures that are performed under local anaesthesia. After surgery and a short stay in the daycare hospital, patients leave hospital by themselves (on their own two feet).
One-day operations on the spine
St. Catherine hospital offers the possibility of performing operations of all parts of the spine, and we specially emphasize disc herniation surgery of the cervical and lumbar spine, minimally invasive stabilization and dynamic stabilization.
One day surgery
We conduct minimally invasive procedures under local anaesthesia to reveal the causes, after which we proceed on a non-surgical treatment of the pain of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral spine and radicular pain of all regions. Methods of detection are called diagnostic interventions, and methods for treatment therapeutic interventions. Interventions are implemented in the state of the art equipped operating room for interventions with the use of Philips Veradius digital X-ray mobile device with flat detector and an image with higher resolution and better contrast compared to previous devices. The dose of radiation with this device is reduced 2-3 times and it is the first device of this type in the region. During the entire procedure of preparing, implementing interventions and observations that lasts 2-3 hours, the patient is accommodated on an outpatient basis with the constant supervision of medical staff. After the procedure is done the patient can independently go home.
